Course Details: AVID 101 is a semester exploratory class for Frederick Thomas Middle School students who meet every other school day on an A/B day schedule.         

Course Description: AVID is a college and career readiness course with a focus on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading.

Objectives/Goals/Targets: Students will utilize reading strategies to assist them in building vocabulary and understanding a variety of texts that will focus on pre-writing techniques, summary writing, and structural components of note-taking. WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading) will be the focus of every lesson. Students will also increase college and career awareness through research and presentations.

Required Texts Materials and Resources: AVID curriculum-Weeks at a glance (WAGS) as well as a variety of texts and other media will be used in class.
